Dear Professional Colleagues,

February, 2013 was an exciting month to begin with. The president meet on 21st February, 2013

at Chennai with the Chairmans of all the chapters of southern region was an enriching experience. It has given us an opportunity to interact with Chairmans of other Chapters and understand the activities planned by them for their region. The new team at headquarters i.e. CS Anathasubramanian S.N., President; CS Harish K Vaid, Vice President; CS M S Sahoo, Secretary; CS

Sutanu Sinha, Chief Executive along with others present deliberated on the theme of challenge the

status quo” in each and every sphere of our activities. The members present appreciated the changes

planned at the institute level. We have already seen the changes planned and implemented by the ICSI in terms of allowing students for online registration for the examination.

The Union Budget, 2013 was announced by the Finance Minister and I am sure that all of you

have gone through the impact and implications of the same to the corporates. One inclusion in the

Service Tax is worth noting. It has introduced a new Section 78A which provides that, if a Company

commits the following contraventions i.e., evasion of services tax, issues of invoices without service tax provision, utilisation of tax credit without receipt of taxable service, etc., would attract a penalty of upto rupees one lakh and the Company Secretary is also bracketed as an Officer in default along with others. So, the Company Secretaries are expected to take due care and cautions in respect of service tax compliance also.

Small steps were taken towards increasing the brand building visibility of the Institute which include

contribution of articles on Companies Bill, 2012 - enhanced scope of Company Secretaries and One

Person Company to the EEANADU” newspaper.

We are planning to work lot more in this direction.

I request the members to come forward and contribute their precious time and resources to the

Chapter as faculty for the oral coaching classes, providing Articles for the Newsletter, suggesting

topics for conducting the Study Circle Meetings,Interactive Meetings, identifying the speakers for

our programs, etc. It has been observed that still large numbers of members are to become the part of CSBF. I expect a change in this scenario and request you all to become the members of CSBF.

It would be my pleasure to interact with each one of you and take your suggestions. Please feel free to share your ideas, thoughts, inputs and suggestions and you may directly reach me out at the following

Yours sincerely
