The
Profession of Company Secretaries has made an enviable mark in the
corporate compliances. In view of expanding work profile and growing
responsibilities of Company Secretaries, a need was felt to reposition
them as competent Corporate Advisor and corporate Strategic Manager.
In this direction, the Institute organised Brain Storming Session
on the Segment Wise Role of Company Secretaries at ICSI-CCRT.
Based on the feedback and suggestions received from the experts,
and also members of the Institute, the modules on 17 industry segments has
been published by the Institute highlighting the core competency of
Company Secretaries in each segment.
These modules cover Banking Industry; Capital Market Intermediaries
– Credit Rating Agencies, Depository Participants, Merchant Bankers,
Mutual Funds, Portfolio Managers, Registrar to an Issue and Share Transfer
Agents, Stock Brokers and Sub-brokers, Stock Exchanges, Venture Capital
Funds; Entertainment Industry; Insurance Industry; IT Enabled Services and
Business Process Outsourcing; Non-Governmental Organisations;
Pharmaceutical Industry; Power Sector and Tourism Industry.
I wish to express my sincere thanks and gratitude to my immediate
predecessor Shri Pavan Kumar Vijay for his efforts, toil and commitment in
conceptualising the idea of Segment Wise role of Company Secretaries,
exploring it and finally starting the process of preparation of these
modules. I also place on
record my sincere thanks to experts who participated in the Brain Storming
Session at ICSI-CCRT and also the members of the Institute for their
valuable inputs and suggestions.
I commend the dedicated efforts put in by Ms. Sonia Baijal,
Education Officer for compiling various modules and minutely going through
the manuscript under the able guidance of Shri V K Aggarwal, Senior
Director and over all supervision of Shri N K Jain, Secretary of the
Institute. I also commend the
efforts put in by Shri Bhuvanesh Chaturvedi, Consultant, Shri Purushottam
Grover, Education Officer and Shri Saurabh Karwayun, Management Trainee,
